For this assignment, I created a brochure for “Science Museum of Central Virginia Summer Camps” using Canva’s free design features. Again, this required me to understand and apply genre conventions outlined by MacRae in Business and Professional Writing: A Basic Guide (CLO1) to create an original work. My final document used plain English and adopted elements of document design in a clear, concise, and playful brochure to effectively advertise a service (CLO 2, 4). Like drafting my professional correspondence, I found it easiest to follow MacRae’s description of AIDA and then revise the final document for my audience. Thus, this assignment not only introduced me to fundamentals of graphic design and an intuitive, free resource for incorporating these principles into a variety of professional documents, but also encouraged me to practice drafting and revision, critical aspects of the writing process.
