We often hear about the importance of “community” at Cormier Honors College. To me, a community is a group of people, bound together by something they all have in common, who work together to create a good environment for everyone. In this case, we have a community of Honors scholars, who live and learn together in Wheeler Hall (mostly, some Honors students live in other areas on campus).
I lived on the third floor of Wheeler, and I made many friends on my hall. There was Charlotte (who got me into Pitch Perfect and has been there for me ever since), Shannon (who was in my World Literature class and proved to be a huge help on several occasions), and many other people who helped make the place feel like home. Seeing so many familiar faces every day was comforting to me, and I really enjoyed the sense of camaraderie all of us shared.
Thanks to being an idiot, I almost ended up in Stubbs my sophomore year, but I fought to earn a place in Wheeler (and, in the end, I got one!). I didn’t want to leave the little cocoon of friendships we had created in Wheeler. Having friends in Wheeler made me feel happy, and I’m glad I got to experience Cormier’s sense of community.
