Goal 5 – Introduction to Computer Science

Having never excelled at mathematics, I was a bit nervous to take a course of this nature at the collegiate level; however, I thoroughly enjoyed the class and finally discovered an area of math that I actually like working on.  The course provided me with a basic comprehension of things like Excel formulas, photo manipulation, and coding.  Dr. McElfresh also based a portion of the course on the historical context of computers, explaining their uses throughout history.  Though I had to visit a tutor several times for assistance when I did not fully understand something, the concepts of the course were explained to me in simple terminology and I caught on fairly quickly.

Attached, you will find a biographical essay I wrote about the life of famed computer scientist Alan Turing.  His work during World War II helped save countless American lives.
