After three semesters of Spanish at Longwood, I finally completed the 202-level required for my Bachelor of Arts degree. I was slightly irritated at the thought of taking an extra Spanish; however, Dr. Barlow made the class enjoyable and informative. As someone who wants to travel in the future, I now feel much more confident that I could communicate effectively in a Spanish-speaking country. We also learned about Spanish culture throughout the semester which added a new dimension to my understanding of the discipline. Verb tenses and grammatical tools are helpful, but discovering the unique and exciting traditions unique to Spanish-speaking countries was fascinating.
For my final paper for the course, I wrote a 5+ page paper on Sor Juana InĂ©s de la Cruz, a Spanish nun and self-taught scholar. Her feminist ideas (as conveyed through her literary works) inspired me to study her for our final project. I’ve attached this paper below.
