Although I spent the first 18 years of my life living in the same small town, I never truly grasped the concept of “community.” Upon moving to Farmville to attend Longwood, becoming a member of the Cormier Honors College, and seeking opportunities for friendship and involvement throughout the school, I can definitely say that I have learned the value of being surrounded by a supportive group of people. The other members of the Longwood community have consistently improved my good times and made my bad times a little easier to cope with. I am fortunate to be at a small school that emphasizes these communal bonds.
In addition to being a member of the Honors community, I serve as a Peer Mentor and help students transition to life at Longwood. This community of people who love our school as much as I do and want to help others motivates me to be the best I can be. Although the community surrounding this group is perhaps the strongest of my involvements, I also treasure my affiliations with Sigma Tau Delta International Honor Society, the Cook-Cole College of Arts & Sciences Student Advisory Board, and the National Society for Leadership and Success.
