Goal 8 – Psychology 101

When I entered Psychology 101, my only knowledge of the subject area came from well-known pop culture references to Freud. I signed up for the course hoping to broaden my understanding of why humans behave in certain ways and expand my opportunities for interdisciplinary connections.

Thankfully, I was able to meet both of the above goals. Dr. Bjornsen’s lectures were thorough, interesting, and covered a variety of topics, ranging from the psychological factors underlying drug use to the specific guidelines that define mental illnesses. Although the more scientific units in the class were a challenge for me, the need to work hard and study extensively taught me new ways of studying unfamiliar material. Below, a review paper which I wrote about the book Saving Normal serves as my artifact for this course:
