Formal Report

The final major product of the course was to create a formal report as a consulting company making recommendations to a company regarding their website. My group elected to analyze three major retail websites and propose changes to a smaller-scale retail website to increase their net sales and page visits. My group was HLA: High-powered Live Analytics and we proposed changes to Lemonbird Incorporated. We elected to analyze the websites of Athleta, Gap, and Old Navy to propose changes to Lemonbird’s website. We developed a survey asking shoppers what they value on a website when online shopping to determine the criteria results used in our report. The research we conducted satisfied course learning outcome three (conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents). We presented our findings to the class in a 15-minute presentation. During the presentation, we acting as HLA consultants and the class acted as Lemonbird Incorporated. We presented our findings and suggestions for improvement. We then fielded questions from the audience and addressed them appropriately. A few questions asked concerned what gives a website its own identity, as the three websites we analyzed were all owned by the same company. Our presentation was given via powerpoint which included examples from numerous websites to illustrate our points. Our presentation as a whole satisfied course learning outcome five (practice oral communication skills to present content effectively), as well as course learning outcome six (participate productively in collaborative products).Overall, this assignment taught me how to effectively manage my time in creating this 26-page report and how to present the findings in a clear and concise manner to a receptive audience.
