Spanish 212

Spanish 212

Background:

I took this course fall semester of my sophomore year. This course was fully online and asynchronous due to Covid-19. Even though this was one of the first classes I had that was fully online, my professor still included activities that helped us connect with our classmates. We developed relationships online through participating in discussion boards, recorded zoom meetings, and collaborative projects. Though the online course had some downfalls, I was still able to connect with my classmates and learn time-management.

Adapting to Change:

I think a big part of why this class was a success (despite being all online) was due to the proper planning of my professor. She found a way to include each learning attribute (speaking, writing, listening, and watching) into an online format. We had to record ourselves speaking and answering questions in Spanish. We listened and responded to our classmates in Spanish. We watched several short films and movies in Spanish. Lastly, we even wrote short essays in Spanish. I think that since this course was asynchronous, it helped me learn Spanish at my own pace. I could complete the activities on my own time which I liked. Completing the homework took anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours. It was definitely a plus that we didn’t have to join through zoom, even though that would have helped me a lot with pronunciation. However, our professor was great at responding to emails and was always posting Youtube videos to help us learn the verbs and pronunciation. The good thing about doing presentations online instead of in-person is that you can rerecord if you mess it up (I definitely took advantage of that)! Even though I had some doubts about learning a foreign language online, I think it had many advantages.

Below is a mini mock film script I wrote in Spanish!

This script was describing a girl, Maria, who needed a ride to school early because she wanted to join the debate team! It needed to be two pages long and of course, it had to be in Spanish.
