Overview:
To me, service is something that we do to better the community. We participate in service not to gain recognition but because we realize that we have a duty to help others when we can. From the first few days I arrived on campus as a part of the honors college, I was able to volunteer at Heartland Horse Heroes in Farmville, VA. While my group spent the morning staining a barn for the horses, others either helped wash the grooming supplies, landscaped, or shoveled horse manure. I enjoyed getting to know everyone in my group and was delighted when I saw how much the owner appreciated our hard work. Hopefully I will get many more opportunities to help out the community with the honors college!
