Work Shadow Program

Overview:

Longwood’s Work Shadow program serves to connect successful Longwood Alumni with current students. Through the program, students can:

  • Get one step closer to a job or internship by getting their foot in the door at a company
  • Establish a solid connection with a Longwood alum that might provide them with a referral or recommendation
  • Get a behind-the-scenes look at a career path, job, and/or industry they may be interested in before they graduate

My Experience:

Before meeting with my assigned alum, everyone received a personalized review of their resumes. I listened to the career service’s advice and created a more professional resume by redesigning the layout, adding important information, and cutting information. When the day finally came, Amanda was so happy to talk with me about her own physical therapy business, Prosper Physical Therapy. Since this took place in the middle of the pandemic, Amanda and I met over Zoom. I got to learn what a typical day looked like for her, as well as hear her advice on how to decide what career path I should choose and tips on how to navigate graduate school. I took notes on everything she said because I really valued her advice. Meeting with her helped me figure out that physical therapy wasn’t really the career path I was looking for.
