Travel Experience: Galaxycon

Back in 2022 I went to my first ever sci-fi convention called Galaxycon. Galaxycon is located in Richmond Virginia and it’s a convention mainly about nerdy stuff such as video games, tv shows, movies, comics, etc. It was definitely one of my favorite weekends and one I’ll never forget. I went with a friend of mine and we decided to do an activity called speed friending to meet new people. From that we formed a friend group and we still talk to this day as well as we also met up at Galaxycon 2023. 

At Galaxycon 2022, I was able to meet Ashley Eckstein who voiced Ahsoka Tano in a lot of Star Wars animated projects. Ahsoka Tano is one of my favorite fictional characters ever made and is a character I relate to a lot so getting to meet the voice actress and tell her how much she means to me was such an incredible thing. I also got to take a picture with her and she’s one of the sweetest human beings I’ve ever met 

The convention has two floors. The first floor is mainly used for vendors to sell merchandise and guests who have a table set up where you can meet them. The second floor consists of rooms for panels and activities such as speed friending as well as gaming. The second floor also has a food court. 

Galaxycon 2022 was fun but Galaxycon 2023 was even better. At galaxycon 2023 I was able to meet new people and I also went to more panels. I went to a panel with some comic book writers and artists who mainly worked on Batman comics and another one with Daredevil comics. I also went to another panel with Charlie Cox and Vincent D’onofrio who played Daredevil and Kingpin, in the Netflix Daredevil show. I also went to a Marvel Vs DC panel which was very chaotic and heated but was very fun. I also got to meet Carey Jones who played Black Krrsantan in The Book of Boba Fett show. Carey was very nice and kind and we talked for about 10 minutes and he was such a down to earth guy who loved talking to fans. I also bought a lot of custom lego figures such as Daredevil, x men, and Kingpin as well as t-shirts such as a daredevil and star wars the clone wars which I was very happy to have.

The reason why Galaxycon will always stick out to me as a great travel experience is because of how at home I felt. I’m a giant nerd so being around people with the same interests as me was a wonderful thing when I’ve never had that at school or with family. I also got to spend time with my dad and got closer to him so he could understand things I enjoyed a little bit more. Galaxycon reminds me as well as inspires me to always be myself and to never change who I am as a person.
