Professional Report

Reflection

For our final assignment, my group and I created a formal report document. We created a field guide to Speech-Language Pathology, which is basically a report on why you should choose the field of study, the different career options within, and how to be successful in the field. We presented the report from our hiring firm called ELT Consulting, and this simply means that we were hired by the Longwood University CSDS Department to advertise their program and help students wanting to enter the field of Speech-Language Pathology. First, we drafted a Letter of Authorization, which states the hiring of our consulting firm by Longwood University’s CSDS program. We were able to create this letter by learning the key points from the material our professor gave us. This letter states that ELT Consulting will hold a meeting to coach students on what Longwood’s program expects of them in the field. Next we created the Letter of Transmittal. This document states that we evaluated the report and gives an overview of the report. The executive summary summarizes the entire report of the field of Speech-Language Pathology and states benefits of the field. We made sure to highlight Longwood University’s program and explain why Longwood is the best fit for students wanting to enter the field. The analysis of the professional report condenses all you need to know about being a Speech-Language Pathologist, and highlights the variety of workplace settings. We included graphs of SLP salaries in the three different workplace settings: medical, private practice, and schools. In the conclusion, we included a survey of Virginia SLPs and what type of setting they work in. Finally, we provided recommendations to those wanting to enter the field. The Professional Report assignment was the perfect project to end the semester with. I struggled some with understanding how to properly write the Letter of Transmittal, but ended up understanding it more after referring back to the textbook. This project tied together everything we worked on during the class time and included all the things we gained knowledge on regarding effective writing. This project was long and timely, but in the end, it made me gain confidence in my professional writing.
