Chi-Square

Table 3. Analyses of Chi-square of amount of time talked with child by ability to identify color.

                                                      Ability to identify color                         Chi-square

Time talked with child             Yes              Some of them                            1.266

                  Yes                             63                         9

                  No                                9                         0

Note: p<.05*, p<.01**, p<.001***

The dependent variable for this Chi-square test was the child’s ability to identify colors. Respondents chose either, “yes”, or “some of them”.  The independent variable for this Chi-square was the amount of time that participants talked with their child. Respondents chose either, “yes”, or “no”. The results of Chi-square (R=1.226) indicate that there is no significant difference between categories. Therefore, the child’s ability to identify colors was not affected by the increased amount of time the parents talked with them.
