Survey Questions

What makes a good survey and survey question? Surveys are best structured as short, easy-to-understand surveys that contain questionnaires and a unit of analysis, typically respondents. Survey questions can be close-ended or open-ended, clear and easy to understand, relevant, short, and unbiased.

For the parent involvement survey, my research question concerns how a parent’s level of education could affect their involvement with their child. To study this question, I will use “What is the highest degree of education you have completed?” as my independent variable. To measure my dependent variable, parent involvement, I will ask, “How comfortable do you feel helping your child with educational activities on a scale of 0 – 10? (0=Not at all, 10= Extremely comfortable)” These questions are good and well-written because they are clear and concise, close-ended, and give the respondents a range they feel comfortable answering.
