Freshman Year:
During my Freshman year, I joined the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Within this organization, we have philanthropies, which include Inherit the Earth and Gerontology. It was through these philanthropies that I was able to complete community service. Through Inherit the Earth, my sorority sisters and I have completed highway cleanup to help conserve, protect, and clean our beautiful planet. Through the gerontology philanthropy, I had the opportunity to visit a nursing home about thirty minutes from Longwood where I assisted elderly members in playing Bingo for prizes. Furthermore, during my first week at Longwood, I was able to help other honors students in moving freshman students into Cox and Wheeler through the “Movers and Shakers” program. All of high school I was very involved in community service and it has been wonderful to be able to carry this over into my college career. Service is such a humbling thing.
