I’m Aaliyah, and I am an upcoming senior at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in social work, with the ultimate goal to pursue my Master’s Degree within the same field. I have the goal of working with students/ within the school system to promote change and advocate for the ending of disparities between race and education, mental health, as well as more inclusion, and more disability resources.
My vision is to work as a school social worker as a way to physically position myself within schools and provide students and even faculty the support needed in this when it comes to the challenges that may otherwise be overlooked in pursuing my vision. Over time, a goal of mine is to become a Dean of a school, where I can utilize my higher position and gained administrative skills to assist in organizing and implementing different programs into schools.
I have always had a passion for working with students/ children and for working in the helping professions. Before beginning my education at Longwood, as early as high school, I have worked with children. The helping professions found me, and as I began my education with introductory psychology and sociology courses, I was only eager to learn more, fueling my excitement for learning about the field of social work.
