Everyone recognizes the importance of education. And even if the degree of preponderance varies, there seems to be a consensus that education is surely an inseparable aspect of any society. No country in the world has ever reached development without an effective, sound, universal education system, and above all, without equal opportunities in education. From this same principle, everyone also recognizes the existence of quantitative problems of education everywhere, not only in the developing world. Moreover, with the considerable spillover effects that education has on society in general, it becomes the duty of the state to procure and deliver what can be called public good.
An education opens doors to many careers and allow for people to be competitive in the work force. In the past, people did not need a college degree to obtain jobs. In the last decade, more employers are looking for individuals with degrees to join their companies. Having educational opportunities allows students choices for their future rather than just something to make ends meet. Individuals with a high school diploma are projected to make about $200 dollars more than a person who did not graduate high school. For some one with a Bachelor’s degree they will make an estimated $600 dollars more than someone without a high school diploma (Torpey, 2018). Hard working students, who live in poverty, may graduate but that does not always ensure that they will have the same advantages as another student who comes from a higher income family.
