Honors 495: Reproductive Justice

This class was completed during the spring of my sophomore year. What the course entailed was learning more about the reproductive disadvantages that women, especially women of color, experience throughout history in the United States. What the course also did was to define the difference between reproductive rights and reproductive justice. I really enjoyed the course overall because it was very enlightening to learn about how so many women were at a disadvantage when looking for contraception, abortions, or even information on how to prevent a pregnancy in general. I felt this class was also very beneficial to help expand my mental library to talk to someone, who may be against any of the items previously listed, so that I may be able to help them understand my opinion, or even me understand their opinion better. I learned so much within the class, even historically, that now I am equipped to be educated on the subject and the information was able to spark my interest in the topic and go looking for more information.

Throughout the class, we were doing miniature projects in order to make a podcast about certain information that myself and a partner were passionate about a subject or wanted to know more information about a specific topic. My partner and I decided to compare the sex education within Northern Virginia and the Chesapeake Region in Virginia to see the different ways they teach the information. We also wanted to know whether the two areas have different information that they teach the children as well. Attached is the podcast that we created to talk about the information and we also compared the two as well.
