Conclusion

This class was very beneficial and I will take away a lot from English 470. Prior to this class, I was unable to write a professional report or create a professional brochure. I feel confident that in the future I will be able to successfully create a report or present information in a formal manner. I will definitely use the information I learned from this class not only in the rest of my time at Longwood but as well as in graduate school and in a future career. I plan to become a Speech Pathologist so writing reports is something I am going to need to be familiar with as well as relaying information to other individuals such as clients, other coworkers, parents, etc. I am proud of my work in this class and feel I have been successful in completing these assignments, The Persuasive Letter, Bad-News Letter, Brochure, Press Release, and the Professional Report. I can confidently say I have achieved the learning outcomes from this class. I can analyze and produce writing genres according to the rhetorical situation of workplace contexts, create professional documents that use plain English principles (to targeted audience), conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents (memos, letters, reports, etc.), create professional documents that use design principles, practice oral communication skills to present content effectively (enhanced with multimedia tools), participate productively in collaborative projects. This class has also helped me with my public speaking. Before, I was scared to talk in class or do presentations. Now, I am more confident and open to contributing to classroom discussions. This is a skill I will also need in the workplace as a Speech Pathologist. In Conclusion, I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to take this class and learn so much from it. I look forward to applying what I have learned in the future!
