The ugly truth about the use of fake Twitter accounts. When the President of the 76er’s trolls his own organization online in secret.

By Carson Smith – June 18, 2018

“I’m a Philly fan but out trade The Process for The Unicorn in a heartbeat…” This comment was referring to Embiid, the superstar from the Sixers for the Knicks superstar Porzingis. The account that wrote this comment was allegedly the President of the 76ers, Embiid’s boss. This irresponsible story deserves additional attention.  As a outside bystander, it seems as if Brian Colangelo is playing on the defensive side during the entire time. Speculations even go as far as making his own wife contribute to the childish actions of harassing people with fake social media accounts. The NBA, the organization, and public all are being affected in a negative way. All the 76er’s fans are baffled because the team was coming off a very successful season. The organization is disgusted that their President of the team would do this to their own players and other faculty members. The NBA shared that there is no place for actions like Colangelo’s in the NBA and there will be more investigations to make sure that this does not continue in the league.

For a few weeks there has been a growing investigation in secret Twitter accounts. There are plenty of cases happening on social media right now. However, one incident with the 76er’s spiked a lot of national attention. These accounts are harassing professional athletes as well as organization responsible for these athletes. After a “bunch of weird tweets” directed at the Philadelphia 76er’s an investigate was launched. The search uncovered an unsettling truth about the Sixers owner Brain Colangelo.

Although there was no true evidence suggesting President Brain Colangelo was responsible for the accounts, he resigned from the team. Nonetheless, the accounts disclosed nonpublic medical information about Okafor and gossip with Embiid and Fultz. The accounts shared knowledge about members of the national and Philadelphia media. These fake accounts on social media are a national issue. The reoccurring theme is that people wish to down grade someone else on the other side of the dark web. Other reasons also include wishing you were someone else, to get more attention from your peers, and to bully others online. The computer mediated realm enables people to treat others with hostile intentions with no repercussions.

Caught in the act, Colangelo was placed at the time of all occurring events and tweets. Investigators found that there were several accounts harassing professional star Joel Embiid and exposing Sixers confidential information. The exploration also revealed that the accounts were connected with Colangelo’s family, friends, and business partners. The secret Twitter accounts embarrassed the team, the players, and the Sixers as a whole. Alarming as these facts are, the 76er’s are a rising Easter Conference power house with a moto for “Trusting the Process.”

There is no real definition for secret Twitter accounts; however, the best way to describe it are accounts that spread information about someone, something, or a group. The account is also anonymous, and the owner of the account does not share their identity. For example, when Colangelo exposed personal the public with a burner account on Twitter, it reached over 2million viewers on information to Facebook, 6million views on Youtube, and thousands of retweets on Twitter. After further investigation, the Sixers Rep confirmed that at least one accounts was tied to Colangelo. Of course, Colangelo denied all accusations but resigned from the President of Operations.

After further investigation, the Sixers Rep confirmed that at least one accounts was tied to Colangelo. Of course, Colangelo denied all accusations but resigned from the President of Operations. Even after the incident people realized that this type of behavior is not acceptable. Especially at this level of influence and power within the National Basketball Association. Sadly, the NBA was dragged into a larger issue. Fake Twitter accounts have been growing at an alarming rate. Hopefully, this a tread that will not continue in professional sports. These actions have no place in any professional sports.

These secret Twitter accounts are causing a ruckus online. Social media is going crazy over investigations about burner accounts related with professional organizations and athletes. The tweets are harmful to individuals as well as groups of people. Some tweets are taken too far and should not be allowed to be posted. Twitter has not been accused after all these accounts have been used for disturbing the peace of others lives. Apparently, the only thing to do is to, “Trust in the Process.”
