Internships

For my junior year internship, I was placed at Healing Strides of Virginia. I concluded my internship with 180 hours of dedicated work towards the organization. At Healing Strides of Virginia, I was given the task of observing clients during the sessions for mental health therapy. As well as working with a group of children for a session where we taught them the basic needs of a horse and humans and how to take care of each. I was also tasked with different tasks such as cleaning stalls, filling up hay, filing paperwork, and any other everyday duties that needed to be tended to.

For my senior internship, I was placed at United Methodist Family Services (UMFS); located in Farmville, VA. I concluded my internship with 500 hours of dedicated work towards the organization and the clients I had contact with. At UMFS, I was given the task of working individually with clients; which included completing assessments, teaching basic life skills, and providing them with a safe place to voice concerns. I also had direct contact with resource parents on any concerns they may have had. While at the internship I was also given the task of redoing and organizing a play/therapy room. For this task, I created an Amazon gift list of different items I thought would be beneficial for the children. As well as set up the room and added decorations to make the room more inviting.
