Some of the best practices for a research question should be exclusive and inclusive. The research question needs to be measurable, specific about your topic, and remove all bias. My research question is “How does socio-economic status influence the level of parent involvement in their child’s development?”. The survey question that will operationalize my dependent variable is “How much did this activity encourage your family to engage with one another?”. And the survey question that would elaborate my independent variable is “What is the highest level of education you’ve completed?”. The reason why these are good, well written questions are because they are not bias, short and to the point, and are not double-barreled questions. Also, the survey questions do not contain negative items, such as NOT, and questions relevant to the assignment.
