Service is another important aspect of higher education and of life. It is always important to give back to the community and those less fortunate than you. Community service has not only helped me give back, but it has also aided in developing leadership and communication skills that are useful in the job world for working with others. I have participated in a few service events here at Longwood, but I primarily volunteer back in my home community in Chesterfield with my coworkers at Target. We have volunteered to do a variety of things such as building a playground, doing some landscaping and yard work at Maymont park, and volunteering at the children’s museum. I have also volunteered at Richmond Animal League (RAL) in the past, walking and feeding dogs and socializing the cats as well as cleaning crates and other supplies. Doing service to help others provides a sense of accomplishment and pride and it feels so good to know I am helping those who need it and I am so happy this is such a big part of the culture here at Longwood University.
