Hello, my name is Jamie Wagner. I am a senior at Longwood University majoring in communication sciences and disorders and minoring in special education. Once I complete graduate school, I am interested in working as a speech-language pathologist in a hospital setting. I have spent a lot of time observing in private practice and school settings, but I am very interested in the medical side of the field. In hospitals, I would work with a lot of stroke or traumatic brain injury patients, as well as patients with head and neck cancers and other disorders or traumas that affect feeding and swallowing or communication.
The purpose of this ePortfolio is to practice professional writing in an online medium and to analyze the outcomes of my ENGL 470 class in respect to the work that I have accomplished in this course. All of the assignments I have completed during my time in this course improved my professional writing skills through practice of proper grammar and hypothetical content. In this ePortfolio, I will cover four of the assignments specifically and how that have helped me evolve as a professional writer.
The six outcomes I will be analyzing include:
- Analyze and produce writing genres commonly found in the professional world.
- Create professional documents that use plain English (clear, concise, and grammatically correct).
- Conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents
- Create professional documents that use design – standard formats, layout, use of graphics, etc.
- Practice oral communication skills to present content effectively (enhanced with multimedia tools).
- Participate productively in collaborative projects.
