More than most classes that I’ve ever took in my short lifetime, this one helped me define myself in a way that I had I never thought of: through my digital writing. Because of this I was able to establish my own identity through technology.
In the three projects, I learned for one that I am very indecisive. For each project assigned I switched my plan at least twice. There was so many ideas and genres that ran through my head that it was sometimes hard to focus on one thing. And if I did focus on one thing, sometimes my digital abilities with technology restricted me. For example, I wanted to make an animation video for my literacy narrative but the programs I used were very complicated for that type of thing. It seems, though, that didn’t hold me back as bad I thought.
That brings me to the next thing I learned about my digital identity, which is my courage and ability to take risks. All of these projects are unique in that require a great amount of creativity and fearlessness to be able to pull it off. The MLK Instagram post had to be executed meticulously because I didn’t want any misunderstandings with a key quote in a legendary document through the impact of social media. The YouTube video also took a great amount of courage as I had never made one before. I worked diligently to understand the basics on video editing using iMovie. I also invited the audience to a personal side of my identity as I opened up about my past experiences and told my story about writing. I think I was able to establish the identity of a speaker, or someone who is not as comfortable writing as opposed to talking. The poster was also something that I had never done before digitally. At first when googling examples of a rock festival-style poster I had no idea how I was going to make it look that good. But I decided to take the risk and do something new and it turned out not to be so bad. Of course I had to try to learn some of the basics of Photoshop, but all in all I made a good product and I was able to get my point across.
The name of this class is “Crafting your Digital Tattoo” so the tattoo or mark that I have presented is one that describes me as an individual who is sometimes uncertain in the approach but once I got something going I am dauntless and I really try to knock it out the park. That’s always has been who I’ve been, it’s how I was raised. I was always told “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you’ll land amongst the stars.” So that’s always been how I’ve done things in life in general. It’s okay to think methodically about a plan but once you got it, do everything you can to make sure it gets done.
