Microeconomics (ECON 217)

Microeconomics was one of the scariest classes required for my secondary education concentration. I had never taken an economics class before this one, and in all honesty I was not entirely sure what economics even focused on, much less microeconomics. I thought this class was going to be a horrible experience and that I would not be able to achieve much of anything through it. One of my biggest fears going into this class was the thought that one day I might be asked to teach an economics class and would have no clue as to what I was teaching because I was incapable of learning anything in Microeconomics.  However, I was swiftly proven wrong as I came to love microeconomics within the first few days of being in the class. Turns out I find economics to be extremely interesting, to the point that it became one of the classes I looked forward to attending every day. This was truly a case of having to step out of my comfort zone and being grateful that I had the opportunity to do so. Had I not already had a political science minor, I may have applied to get a minor in economics because of this class. I was confident leaving this class that I had grasped a good understanding of Microeconomics and would not only be prepared to go straight into Macroeconomics but would also be prepared to explain all the concepts to someone else.

My artifact from ECON 217 is a PDF I made during the semester. This PDF contains supply and demand graphs, which was a concept I learned for the first time in micro and took to rather quickly. I handmade these graphs on my laptop’s touch pad before I realized I could have easily scanned a paper at the library. These graphs were very enjoyable to make and I enjoyed being able to take the concepts being taught in class and applying them in a visual manner, which both made it easier to visualize and would help assure myself that I was comprehending what I was learning in the class. Over the course of the semester as well as within the next semester in Macro, I made quite a lot of these graphs but these that I made on the computer are special to me as they were one of the first signs of progress in my comprehension I made throughout the course.
