For General Education Goal 6, I chose to take the Honors section of BIOL 101, which is the basic intro biology class. As a person who has always hated taking science classes, I was dreading taking this class, but when I was actually in the class I realized I had nothing to fear. Dr. Shanley was a wonderful professor and made the concepts that were difficult for me easy to understand. The lab sessions we had were really enjoyable, and it was very fulfilling to put the concepts we were learning into action. Though I typically dread anything concerning math or science, this class was so enjoyable that it was my favorite of that semester and will probably be one of my favorites that I have taken.
The most memorable part of this class though was presenting at the research symposium at the end of the semester. I had never taken part in something like that, so the experience was very enlightening and will be very useful for when I have to do something similar to it in the future. Because of that event, the artifact that I chose for this class was the research paper I wrote about the project my group presented at the symposium. This research was something that we had to think of and test ourselves, and it was very interesting to do all the work and see the results. This artifact really shows all the work that was put into the project, and is something that I am proud I got to work with.
