Letter to My Senior Self

Hey Senior Bethany!

Wow, it must have been a long ride! You’ve finally done it! All those years of writing papers, staying up far too late, and stressing out over final exams has finally come to an end. I can only imagine how wonderful it must feel. You struggled through not only the academic difficulties but all the difficulties you must have faced in your personal life too. I’m sure there were (more than there already has been) times that you just wanted to run outside screaming or give up on it all, but you did it anyways. You have finally proven to not only yourself but everyone else that you could do it, and you sure did. If you are not already (which, knowing how I am, you probably aren’t) proud of yourself and celebrating, then you should be! You earned it!

But, before that, I would like to think that regardless of how hard it was you truly did enjoy yourself here at Longwood. These few years that you spent here should be ones that you can look back on and think, “Wow, I’m so glad that I was able to experience this” and, “I’ll never forget this.” I hope that you were able to do everything that you wanted, but mostly I hope that you are happy with everything that you have done. If not though, then it is what it is and you are still so young with so much life ahead of you, so everything will work out. Don’t stress it!

I hope you have some sort of idea of where you are going after you graduate, because unfortunately as I am right now I have no idea. Sorry for procrastinating for so long and making things difficult for you, but I can almost bet you are still the same so it isn’t that big of a deal. I’m not sure if you are still with the high school teacher aspirations that I currently have, but if you are, just remember all the reasons why you wanted to do what you are going to do (still valid if you changed goals). Wherever you go though, I know you will do your best, so take that deep breath and stop stressing out about every little thing (and enjoy that shopping trip that you will take to get new clothes).

Everything that you have done has lead to this moment, so I hope you can think back to everything and smile, but continue to look forward to wherever life leads you. I’m proud of where you are and I know that you will succeed. Good luck with everything, Bethany! (:

Love,

Your freshman self.
