Goal 3 English 202
English 202 was an amazing class taught by an amazing instructor. The professor, Dr. Brock-Servais, tried to make British Literature as engaging as possible by allowing us to read action packed books such as Casino Royale and V for Vendetta alongside classics such as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I loved this professor and still consider her one of the best instructors at Longwood. The only problem was, I seemed to be the only person who felt this way. Since this was a general education requirement, most of my classmates didn’t read the literature or participate in class discussion because they simply did not care. I became incredibly insecure because I felt that most of the class was just me discussing with the professor while my peers passively observed. My fears were amplified when I went out to a party one Friday and a classmate said to me, “Oh hey! I know you! you’re Amanda! You’re the girl who talks A LOT in class.” At first, I was horrified that I had a reputation for being that student, but in that moment I realized that I should be that student. We should ALL be that student. We are lucky enough to have the opportunity to pursue higher education and we should get the most out of our learning experience. I loved British literature and I love that about myself. Attached is the cover of my favorite book that we read in Brit lit.
