Goal 7 Modern Western Civilizations
I took modern western civilizations with Dr. Holliday and learned a great deal about history and myself. This was the first history class I had the opportunity to take at Longwood and it served as a fantastic introduction to the major for me. Although I learned so much about absolutism, the French Revolution, and World War I and II, I learned the most in that class when we studied Chilean history. Dr. Holliday had the class read a book called Courage Tastes of Blood that I later found out was “too dense for undergrad” and since I had to write a four page essay on this book I was petrified. There was so much in the book that I could not comprehend and I started to doubt myself and my ability to write this paper. When I finally wrote it and turned it in, I was shocked to find out that I had received an A on the paper. Modern Western Civilizations taught me that I am more than what I think I am. I also learned to never doubt myself and to raise my own personal expectations. This is a copy of the paper that taught me to never underestimate my abilities.
