My Professional Profile

My name is Sarine Thomas and I am currently a senior studying Business Administration, concentration on Accounting, and plan to graduate on Spring 2019. Since when I was little, I like numbers and playing with them. Thus, I thought about being in a numbers field which I ended being an Accounting major. I am currently a tutor for Applied Statics in the university, this way I can help others to achieve their goals. Also, I am serving as Director of Membership of Accounting Student Association. During summer breaks, I work as a cashier in a small business in my hometown and I am a tutor for kids at one of the tutoring centers. I do like to help others and being friendly to people. I like to talk with people and meeting new people. Being a tutor for the kids made me have a desire to be patient and I can learn from them too.

The Purpose and the Content

The main purpose of this portfolio is to reflect on the assignments and projects from English 470, this is a professional writing course I took in Spring 2019. The first assignment we have to do is correspondence in which we have to write a bad news letter and a persuasive letter to the prompt given. The second big assignment was to make an imaginary product and to make a brochure and press release to sell the products. And our final assignment was to do a formal report on a make up company to make their website more attractive to others. This included analyzing three other websites that are in the same industries.

Throughout all the assignments and projects, I accomplished the course learning outcomes from this projects and assignments. Present day I can analyze and produce writing genres commonly found in the professional world which can be business and medias which we did for the correspondence, brochure, and press release. I can now easily create professional documents that use plain English which uses clear, concise, and grammatically correct for all the assignments and projects in this class. I can easily conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents with correspondences and with the formal report. I certainly can create professional documents that uses design with standard formats, layout, use of graphics which I used in the brochure and in the formal report. Then now I am fully capable of practice oral communication skills to present content effectively with the presentation at the of our formal report. And I can certainly participate in collaborative projects with the ideas used for every assignment in this course.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Conduct research to create content for a variety of professional documents (memos, letters, reports, etc.);

  • Participate productively in collaborative projects.
