Service

Longwood University has given me the opportunity to give to others. From the very beginning I knew service was going to be one of the largest impacts Longwood would have on me. One of Longwood’s most beloved traditions says it themselves, “service to the whole without seeking honor for thy self”. I began my time at Longwood with a day of service during the Honors Leadership Retreat. On this day, I was able to help my peers move into their dorms and get settled for the exciting journey ahead. Throughout the year, I have had other wonderful opportunities helping out within the local community and school community in places such as the Longwood Visual Arts Center, the community Halloween Parade, blood drives, and more. I also had the wonderful opportunity of going to Puerto Rico during spring break alongside Alternative Breaks do work on Hurricane Maria relief. I will continue working alongside Alternative Breaks this upcoming school year by planning a service trip working with mental illnesses within homeless populations in San Diego during winter break.
