Introduction
Summarize Mr. Clear’s story in a few sentences. As a future recreation therapist, when you hear Mr. Clear’s story, how do you feel about each person’s capability and capacity for improvement despite their disability?
- James’ story is about the struggle he went through from getting seriously injured on the baseball field that led to him at one point being induced into a coma. James went all the way from being hospitalized in the 10th grade to being awarded his universities highest academic honor (the President’s Medal) and also being named to ESPN Academic All-American team. Hearing his story goes along with the saying I live by, and that is the sky is the limit. I believe no matter who you are or what disability you might have, with a little bit of help and determination you can get anywhere in life you want to be.
Chapter 1 : The Surprising Power of Atomic Habits
The author states “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems” (Clear, 2018, p. 27). What does he mean by this statement? What does it have to do with changing habits? Give an example.
- The meaning of this statement is that all a goal is the direction that you want to be going, but the system is the road you take to get there. System is how you practice and how you prepare to get to that overall goal. It has to do with changing habits because you need to focus on those good habits and build better ones so that system of yours is working the best it possibly can. So therefore for an example, if you keep taking wrong turns then you will never get to your destination which is your goal because your system which is your memory of roads keeps failing.
