The Office of Student Student Research offers several opportunities for faculty to enhance their courses as well as collaborate with students on research.
Curricular Development: Disciplinary Courses
Tenured and tenure-track faculty from all programs, departments and colleges may apply to enhance an existing course with research/inquiry. OSR will select three 100- and 200-level courses and three 300- and 400-level courses. Each selected faculty member will be awarded a one-time $3,500 stipend to enhance and teach at least one section of the course during the specified academic years. General education coursesand courses with large enrollments are eligible. Participants are selected in the spring.
Collegiate Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Opportunities (CURIO)
CURIO is a Spring semester research experience. Students work as a research assistant on a faculty member’s research as well as develop a research proposal based on their own research. Faculty provide mentorship for the student’s research project. For selected faculty-student teams, students receive $1000 for 100 hours of work ($10/hr. for 10 weeks) and faculty receive $1500. This is ideal for students who want to gain a head start on research for a larger project, such as senior seminar. Participants are selected in the fall.
Summer Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (SURI)
SURI is an eight-week summer research experience for fields beyond the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. For 30-40 hours per week, students work on a faculty member’s research project and develop their own individual research project. For selected teams, faculty will receive a $7,000 stipend and students will receive a $3,500 stipend, boarding in a dormitory (or stipend for off-campus housing) and meal plan fees. Participants are selected in the fall.
