I was born and raised in Farmville, Virginia, so I grew up surrounded by and exploring the Longwood campus. I was constantly being exposed to the amazing things that the university was doing in the community and wanted to be a part of it. One of these examples was after the fire in Ruffner. When they were rebuilding the dome that defines one of the major buildings on campus, they allowed the community to join together and write notes, sign, or just draw on the infrastructure of the dome before putting it where it belongs.
This example of Longwood’s community outreach is part of what encouraged me to attend Longwood University in the first place. While here, I have met some friends that I believe I will continue to have throughout my college experience, and possible further.
The small campus feel of Longwood has not only created a stronger community between students, but also between students and faculty. There are many professors at Longwood that are able to devote time to their students because of the community built at the university.
