Hello!
My name is Carley Slayden and I graduated from Longwood University in May of 2020. Throughout my time at Longwood University I was required to gain field experience. During this time I worked with teachers and students in the fourth grade, third grade, second grade, and kindergarten. As I progressed through working towards my degree my responsibilities as a future educator increased. During my partnership semester I was placed in a kindergarten classroom at a rural elementary school in Blackstone, Virginia. During this time I provided one on one tutoring to a student that was having difficulty with literacy, worked with a small group of students that needed math intervention, taught small and whole group lessons in all subject areas, and worked with a student to improve his behavior. During my student teaching semester I was placed in a fourth grade classroom at Old Hundred Elementary School in Chesterfield, Virginia. During this time I designed lessons, taught whole group and small group lessons, implemented classroom management strategies, helped design a distance learning plan, and took on the responsibilities of an everyday teacher. I have set this portfolio up so all of my work during my senior year at Longwood University is available to those that are interested. Within this portfolio you will find several lesson plans, my teacher research question, research that supports my question, data that shows my students improvements, and student work samples.
