Students will be able to analyze critically and apply the major principles of ecology
and evolution.
Over the course of my education the classes I took for these subjects were biology 251 Intro to Ecology and Evolution, biology 399 Evolution, and biology 330 Conversation Biology. While these were not my particular subjects of interest, I found these classes very interesting. In biology 330 I did a focus on the amphibian crisis currently happening. My group looked into the extinction rates of amphibians and how amphibians are an indicator of environmental conditions.
I had never actually looked this deeply into the environmental side of biology and this was extremely eye-opening to me to see how important this research actually is. I never thought I would be interesting in ecology and evolution, but after these classes I think I would want to look deeper and they have definitely broadened my perspective of biology. It taught me how to collect data, articulate, and explain findings from different disciplines than ones I am used to studying. I think this helped further my skills and use techniques I never used before.
The artifact I included was my group’s complete work on the amphibian crisis and the research we did on it.
