Principles of Microeconomics (ECON 217):
Principles of Microeconomics is the absolute best class I have taken at Longwood University. I not only loved the content of the class, but Dr. Melanie Marks is my favorite professor. The course was very lecture and note-taking intensive, not only were there in-class lectures, but we had to watch online lectures outside of class. While it was an extremely heavy workload, it was what I expected for an Honors course.
Microeconomics is an important topic that I think most people should have to take as it teaches students that people’s choices can affect the world around them. College is all about gaining knowledge and learning skills, knowing the basic economic principles can cultivate how a person can navigate through the job market. Being able to show range and flexibility is important when looking for a job and being able to understand how the company you work for allocates their resources and operates within different markets is a skill that students across all majors can use.
In the fifteen weeks, we covered a wide-varied of topics from market systems to elasticity. Each section we had several homework’s are at least one quiz. We had three test over the course of the semester based on the content we had learned.
I loved the content of the class so much that I changed my major. Over the course of these fifteen weeks, I realized that liking a subject is different than having a true passion for it. I love understanding different markets and that I can interpret economic data and apply it to real life examples that are helping me navigate the real-world. This course has been my all-time favorite course, I have taken at Longwood University. I discovered that I had a passion for Economics and without Dr. Marks and this course, I would still be a miserable chemistry major.
Above is a completed homework from one of my favorite topics within the class.
