Biography

Hello!

My name is Jessica “Jess” Michelle Cecilia Semmler. I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA where I am the youngest of four daughters. I come from what I like to call a Neo-Nuclear family. In other words, incredibly dysfunctional, but we all love each other.

When I first came to Longwood University I was initially undeclared. I just wanted to try everything at once!  However, because I hate being unsure of my next step I decided to declare my initial major: Business Administration with a concentration of Information System and Cyber Security, a mouthful, I know. However, when I finally got around to taking my business courses I had an epiphany; I dont care about business! So that’s what led me to change my major to History with a concentration of Secondary Education (Spoiler alert: By the end of the semester I changed my major again). And that’s okay! After many nights tossing and turning, fretting about what my future will look like I realized that I don’t care what I’m doing, I just want to be surrounded by those who care about me.

I am currently a sister of Alpha Sigma Tau. This was a little bit of an impulse decision but I hardly regret it. My sisters have helped me discover who I am and who I want to be and have always pushed me to take leadership positions where I have always thrived. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I wasn’t able to meet my amazing friends and sisters.

Attached below is a word cloud. It is composed of the various words my classmates from high school used to describe me. I put it in the shape of a bird because birds are some of my favorite animals.
