Shots in the Dark for Students

The US Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos is now considering allowing federal funds, which are meant to be used for the enrichment of students, to be used to purchase firearms.  Putting guns is schools is said to be for the safety of the students. I, however, disagree. I firmly believe that arming teachers would not only be fruitless for preventing school shootings, but cause more harm than anything else. Arming teachers could potentially give students access to guns, all they would have to do is  know where the firearms are kept, and then sneak the guns away from their teachers. Furthermore, teachers are supposed to make students feel safe, not like their instructor could kill another student, if they really wanted to. The aforementioned funds are intended to aid the education of our nation’s young minds, not create an impression of militarization in our already overly-armed, aggressive country.
