This class was an online summer course on comparative healthcare. In this course, we compared different healthcare systems from all around the world focusing mainly on the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Chile, France, and Germany. Being a nursing major, I learn a lot about healthcare in the United States and how to work within; however, I never learn about other healthcare systems and how they differ. This course taught me various different types of healthcare and the pros and cons of each. It has allowed me to use this knowledge and apply it to the United States to better understand my own healthcare system. When I hear terms or policies within health settings, I am able to interpret the information and use it in my nursing practice.
This course also fulfilled the study abroad requirement. You may find separate information focusing on this under the study abroad tab.
Below is one of the major assignments for this course. My classmates and I were required to choose a country to research throughout the course on their entire healthcare system, how it functions, the strengths and weaknesses within, and the rationing methods used. My chosen country was Italy. This final paper sums up Italy’s healthcare system, rationing policies, and proposed changes to the system.
