Goal 3: World Literature

This course completely surprised me.  I wasn’t sure what world literature would entail and I assumed it wouldn’t interest me since I usually don’t like this sort of class.  This course ended up being one of my favorite classes.  I got to read works of literature that I would’ve never read on my own or even heard of.  The great aspect of this class was that it was mainly group discussion, so I got to hear my peers views and ideas.  This helped expand my knowledge of other views and opinions on topics that the literature raised such as gender roles and sexuality.  It was nice to be in a safe space where everyone was bouncing off ideas and explaining their point of view.  It helped me grow as an individual through being able to see and understand how some others view the world that may or may not be different than mine.

Below is my midterm essay for this course.  We were allowed to pick between a variety of prompts and I chose to discuss the relationship between mortals and gods in some of the works we had read.  This assignment allowed me to go deeper into the text and look at how people viewed each other and interacted in these stories.
