Hello and welcome!

My name is Avion Saylor-Mills, I am currently a junior at Longwood University and expected to graduate May 2023. My major is social work and my minor is creative writing. I chose social work because I enjoy helping others, but I like to extend my helping hand further as in finding resources and understanding the person as a whole. I chose creative writing because of my ability to write different forms such as short story and poetry; with my writing I am able to connect with the readers on a more deeper level. I hope that I can incorporate my creative writing with my social work as well.

Once I graduate I plan on advancing my education by getting my master’s degree in social work. I would like to eventually start my career as a school social worker. So far my journey at Longwood made me realize that I enjoy working with different populations but I enjoy connecting with children and young adolescents more. I believe that children view the world differently which is why I would want to work with that population.
