About Me

Allow me to introduce myself; I am Sarah Brown.  I am a student at Longwood University, going into my final semester, studying business administration with a concentration in management and an endorsement in supply chain management.  The goal of this blog is to provide an introduction to my professional life and begin the discussion of the course topic, life online.

Originally, I came to Longwood as a psychology major but changed my major during my sophomore year because I was not sure which direction to take.  I have always been interested in helping people work through life challenges.  However, over time I came to realize, a business degree would be more suitable for my personality and my academic strengths.  Fortunately, the psychology courses I took are applicable to the business world because they involve human relations.

I am a member of a professional business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, and currently hold the position of Vice President of Chapter Operations.  In the past, I held the position of Chapter Room Chair, Ritual Chair, and Website Chair.  I continuously strive to have good grades and have made the Dean’s List almost every semester.

One of the most interesting courses I have had at Longwood was last semester.  The course was called Organizational Behavior.  The topic of the course revolved around human behavior in the work place.  For example, we discussed what motivates people, how stress can impact the work environment, and aspects of diversity.

After my undergraduate career, I am considering continuing my education at Longwood, through their MBA program.  However, I am still weighing the pros and cons of a post-graduate education.  The biggest factor is whether to pursue the degree now or wait and gain experience in the work force.  Also, I am unsure where I will take my degree after my undergraduate career which causes some anxiety for what the future holds.

The theme of this English 400 course is online presence.  I realize that as I get older, it is important to be more aware of what is put online because I am developing a professional identity.  Through this course, I hope to better understand the benefits and the consequences of my online presence.
