Welcome to my Professional Writing Portfolio!

My name is Kayla Paolillo and I am currently a Junior at Longwood University. I am majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders, a field I have always been passionate about. Treating linguistic differences is important and I believe that communication facilitates connection. I am hoping to incorporate music and art therapies into my future practice; during the summer I teach art and it has solidified my theory that creativity can serve as a vehicle for success and growth. My five years of experience in customer service are indicative of my love for communication and conversation. I am a people person and am always looking for new opportunities to grow my interpersonal skills and broaden my perspective through interaction. I aim to attend graduate school here at Longwood and continue on my journey to developing a private practice as a speech therapist.

This ePortfolio highlights the work achieved in English 470, a Professional Writing course dedicated towards providing students with the tools they need to produce successful text in a workplace setting. The tabs at the top of the page will lead you to some of the assignments completed throughout this course. My correspondence, brochure, press release, and formal report are all included for your viewing pleasure. Through the completion of these projects, I learned about design principles, communication skills, and rhetorical appeal strategies. I feel as though I have been successful in utilizing the skills featured in the course outcomes, but I still need to work on my research strategies and abilities. I will continue to use and search for instances of pathos, ethos, and logos. The rhetorical appeals contribute towards more effective and persuasive text.
