Correspondence

Reflection

The two letters in the correspondence section of this course were the Bad News Letter and the Persuasive Letter. These two letters achieved the course learning outcomes stated on the home page on this site. The first learning outcome these letters achieved was number one, “Analyze and produce writing genres commonly found in the professional world (e.g., business, gov., media).” For example, I had to read and analyze other examples of these letters from the course textbook and then write one of each myself. The second learning outcome that was achieved was the second outcome, “Create professional documents that use plain English (clear, concise, and grammatically correct).” Throughout this writing process, I learned how to write different pieces that would follow the eight C’s. Throughout this writing process, I learned how to get my point across in a clear and concise way as well as being grammatically correct and courteous. Another learning outcome that was achieved was outcome number four, “Create professional documents that use design – standard formats, layouts, use of graphics, etc.” The course textbook offered examples of layouts and formats for the Bad News Letter and Persuasive Letter. I then researched other company memos to aid in the content and correct formatting.
