This professional writing project fulfilled all six of the course learning outcomes – 1) Analyzing and producing writing genres commonly found in the professional world; 2) Creating professional documents that use plain English; 3) Conducting research to create content for a variety of professional documents; 4) Creating professional documents that use design – standard formats, layouts, use of graphics; 5) Practicing oral communication skills to present content effectively; and 6) Participating productively in collaborative projects.
The concept for our formal report came from group discussion and agreement, which led to our initial research into various websites. Next, we collectively agreed to delegate certain tasks to each group member, such as having each analysis be conducted by a single group member rather than the whole group. This allowed us to manage our work more effectively while providing constructive criticism to one another. Thanks to this, we were able to complete the project on schedule.
It was important to our group that we use clear and simple language in expressing our analyses, in order to both avoid confusion and expand our audience to anyone interested in web design. Along with this, the presentation of our report allowed us to practice our oral communication skills in explaining our findings to the rest of the class in a way that was both engaging and understandable.
