For our group’s Common Good Project, we chose to explore the issue of gender inequalities in the workplace. We specifically focused on the issues of unequal pay, dress code, and sexual harassment. The purpose of this assignment aligned with Course Concepts #1: Engage in the process of citizen leadership by investigating multiple perspectives on important public issues; and #3: Choose appropriate formats in writing for a variety of purposes. We took a topic that was collectively decided upon as a group that we felt was an important issue that we saw that needed to be changed in society. We took the concepts that we learned in class, and through the use of writing, applied them to a real life issue that we felt were important and had the capacity to change. Throughout the course of the project, I was amazed as to exactly how much gender inequality effects the workplace, and how the issue is still sorely unrecognized. In the project, we interviewed several men and women in various fields of work, and were able to get first-hand experiences and testimonials as to how this problem affected them in their daily lives.
