My goal is to become a clinical mental health counselor so I searched a current event from a newsletter from the American Counseling Association website. “The American Counseling Association is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. Founded in 1952, ACA is the world’s largest association exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings.” This article was about how the association is bringing trauma and disaster mental health training to the staff members of the Boys and Girls Club. This training implementation was a result of the incidents that happened in Charlottesville, Virginia. White supremacist led a march that attempted to spread devastation and hate among the town. People were left injured due to being hit by a car that was driven into a crowd of people. A woman  and two police officers were killed as well. These training sessions were used to help staff members efficiently support and empower the young children of the Boys and Girls Club. On August 14th, 2017, the association responded to the violence and hatred of the rally that occurred in Charlottesville. ” The American Counseling Association values an inclusive society where people are accepted regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, culture, physical ability, religion, age, or sexual identity. Any discrimination is harmful to the well-being of the individual and our society.”
