My favorite aspect about LifeStem are the mentor meetings. I got great advice on how to attack difficult assignments. By the second semester we finally got the ball rolling to meet with professors for research. I was excited every week to meet and ask my mentor about how to be the best student I could be. When I had the option in my second semester to have mentor meetings every week or every other week I chose meeting every week. We worked on a little personal development by trying to find ways to improve my work ethic. My mentor told me about the Pomodoro technique where I work in intervals. It was extremely helpful for larger assignments that I wouldn’t want to do.
I believe the quality of the mentor meeting depends both on the mentor and the mentee. The mentor must have something worthwhile to teach, but the mentee must ask the right questions and keep his mind open.
